The nice part about making your own game on your own is the freedom. You’re in control of everything: what it looks like what it sounds like, and how it plays. I like this feeling, it’s not something I get a lot in life to be honest. Yes, I have the freedom to choose what I want, blah blah blah. But honestly, who wants to choose not to go to work so they cannot afford to buy food so they can starve later on? That’s not really freedom to me, but making something from scratch with your own hands… Now that is a beautiful thing.
For my game I’m making a quirky and fast paced dodgeball game. It’s my first game so I want it be something silly and fun, something that it’s okay if it doesn’t look perfect, and something that is pretty easy. It’ll be a bit cartoony with human like models for the players. The maps or levels or areas where the dodgeball matches take place will be a wide variety of locations. I would like to have different themes for the locations from beaches to indoors, Halloween and maybe even parodies of movies! I want the music to be upbeat and exciting, but also not too distracting. The controls will be pretty basic, you can move your character, jump and run. You’ll pick up a ball with one button, and use another to throw it. You can charge your throw and aim it the same way you look around. It feels weird to describe in words, but actually playing it it’ll be easy and simple.
I’ll have a good idea at the end of this project what making a game entails. Already just thinking through it I keep finding more and more things I didn’t think about before. It’s going to be fun and I cannot wait to see it complete and ready to play š
